Now like any good stereotypical millennial I love a good life hack.
Anything to make my life and day-to-dayness that little bit easier 🙂 James and I were changing the sheets on our bed the other night and fell into a conversation about all the little hacks we’ve discovered since moving into our first home together.
Some of them will be super obvious to you and you may do them already, some of them you may never have come across before! If you’ve never come across them, let me know! I’d love to know if I managed to make your life that little bit easier 🙂
Having an organised linen cupboard
I absolutely hate changing my bedding, as I’m sure most people do. Being practically five foot nothing and having a king sized bed just doesn’t work sometimes. Honestly, watching me trying to put bedding on a king sized duvet must be a bleedin’ hoot for James.
One thing I have learned to keep all my linen in check is to house an entire set in a pillow case. This way all your bedding is together and you’re not endlessly having to hunt around for the matching pillowcase for the sheets. It really saves us so much time and ensures our linen cupboard is neat and tidy 🙂 (how adult of me…)
Bio Oil is life
Since piling on the weight back in my late teens when I went through “that part of my life we don’t talk about”, to now having lost all of that and being smaller than I was since I was 18, my skin has obviously stretched a little. Stretch marks are not a bad thing by the way and are perfectly normal on everybody, but the one’s on my chest are particularly bad.
I looked for a solution to this for ages and a friend then told me about Bio Oil. Oh my days, am I glad she did or what! This stuff is incredible and super quick and easy to use. Yes my stretch marks will never go and I’m not honestly bothered, but this stuff has really made them a lot less noticeable, which in turn, helps with my body confidence 🙂
I’ve not used in on scars but I’m told it’s great for those too, if you want to hear more about that, head over to Life with Lynette for her thoughts on Bio Oil!
Having a reusable water bottle will change your life
I kid you not, this one for me was groundbreaking! You will get told and told and told about the importance of drinking plenty of water. Well you guessed it…I’m going to tell you again.
Water is life. Literally. There are so many benefits to drinking lots of water throughout the day, from helping your skin, to increasing your productivity at work, if you’re going to take one thing from this post, drinking water should be it.
Also by having a reusable bottle is helping with the planet too. We live in a world where plastic is really beginning to destroy our oceans and I know you won’t think that little ol’ you can make a difference by having a reusable bottle, I mean after all, you’re only one person right?
But if everyone had that mindset then this would never change. Small steps lead to big changes people 🙂
Save money and make fresh
I thought this was an obvious one but apparently after speaking to a few people it’s really not! James and I will always make everything (where possible) from scratch. Pasta sauces, curries and more, everything will be from fresh ingredients. Not only does it work out much cheaper, it also is so much better for your health.
It honestly takes a couple of minutes to make such a good pasta sauce from simply a tin of tomatoes, some garlic and herbs. One of the best things I’ve ever done is to teach myself how to cook and how to make different things. Now I find it super easy to experiment and try out new sauces and ingredients in the kitchen.
Have a pair of smart shoes under your desk and go to work in your trainers
This is such a great hack, especially if you’re upping your healthy lifestyle like me. Walking on your lunch break is such a good way to get in those 10,000 steps that are recommended we do every day. Even if it’s not possible to reach that, making a conscious effort to do so can help increase your NEAT (Non-exercise activity thermogenesis).
This is the energy expended for everything we do that is not sleeping, eating or sports-like exercise (training in the gym etc.). It ranges from the energy expended walking to work, typing, gardening, housework and fidgeting. By helping to increase this, you will also help with any weight and fat loss goals you may have.
