The Fat Badger Grill – Review

Hello beautiful people! 🙂 Any foodies out there? Yep me too!

So James and I recently decided that with the house bits and pieces starting to calm down that we’d treat ourselves to a good meal out. Now if you’re from Harrogate or know Harrogate well (ish), then you know there are tonnes of restaurants, cafes and eateries to choose from.

Almost too many.

Instead of spending god only knows how long choosing where to eat, I decided to take the plunge and pick myself. This isn’t easy as James absolutely loves his food!

The Fat Badger Grill Review

I decided on The Fat Badger Grill, which is based at the bottom of Cold Bath Road in the centre of Harrogate. We’ve been to the pub part many times, however have never tried the restaurant. So I thought, why not! It’s got great ratings on TripAdvisor and when we looked at the menu at work, we both got pretty hangry…

The grill menu comprises of nibbles, starters, fish, grills, classics and sides. A lot to choose from I know! It was especially hard for us to pick as everything sounded so damn good!

We ended up speaking to our lovely waitress, (sorry I cannot remember your name but you were fab!) and asking for her opinion. She explained in a bit more detail about the dishes that we couldn’t decide on and finally, we chose.

To start

For starters, James went for the Mini Crab Tacos and I went for the Scottish Mussels. We’ve pretty much become seafood and fish junkies as of recent haha we love it so much! My mussels were to die for. They came swimming in a White Wine, Cream & Parsley sauce which was so rich and moreish. I’m not even ashamed to say that once my mussels had gone, my bread was soaked in it too 🙂

The mussels were quite literally the best I’ve ever had…I’ll let you know if the mussels I want to have in Greece when we go in September are just as good 😉

For main

For our main course, we decided to step away from the sea and try something different. James went for the Asian Style Pork Belly, which was the biggest portion of food I have ever seen! I, on the other hand, went for the Spanish Meatballs. My balls came with Buttered Beans, Chorizo & Toasted Ciabatta, and my goodness, the flavour was divine.

I cannot even describe to you how tasty this dish was. It was so rich with tomato flavour and chorizo and topped with little dollops of cheese. Honestly, I’m drooling just writing this haha. I may try and recreate this at home but it’s doubtful I’ll make it as good.

As a little bit extra James decided to also get some skinny fries and broccoli, not sure why as the portion sizes were huge! We didn’t even get halfway through the sides in the end.

To finish

To finish off what was an already incredible meal, we decided that sod it, we’d get a pudding. After all, it was cheat night 🙂

In typical “us” style we went for pretty much what we’d always go for. James chose the Brioche Bread & Butter Pudding with English Custard and I went for the Sticky Toffee Pudding, Toffee Sauce and Vanilla Ice Cream (obviously). As expected this was incredible too. To be honest you can’t really go wrong with a good piece of Sticky Toffee Pudding!

Would we go again?

In a heartbeat. When we went, neither of us could fault it. The food was excellent, the wine was fab and the service was on point. They’ve really got a good thing going!

If you’re from Harrogate or ever visiting and need somewhere to try for dinner, get yourself to The Fat Badger Grill.
