Why do lifestyle blogs matter?

Having only really begun blogging seriously back in December last year, sometimes I still struggle to find my voice when writing.

I’ve been reading articles about how I should hone in on my niche and pick a specific topic to write about consistently. I was getting so frustrated because I’m not ready to pick just one topic; I want to write about all kinds of things! I’m passionate about fitness, homeware, beauty, baking and my cats and I want to write about them all.

Maybe as time goes on, I’ll niche down a bit, but for right now I’m self-classified as a lifestyle blogger and that’s okay. But, it got me thinking: What’s the point of lifestyle blogs when there are other blogs that specifically focus on food, or fashion or health? Why do so many pick on lifestyle bloggers? Why is being a lifestyle blogger given a negative connotation? Why do lifestyle blogs matter?

Here’s what I’ve decided…

Why do lifestyle blogs matter?
They become a place of understanding and comfort

I’m always really hesitant to write about fitness and my issues with weight, but my blog has given me the courage to express my opinions and feelings on the matter. It’s made me realise I’m not alone and others aren’t either. Reading other lifestyle blogs allow me to relate experiences and understand that I’m not the only person out there struggling with their body image.

We want to know we’re not alone

Lifestyle blogs offer a sense of community and friendship. I have made so many friends since starting blogging and through writing about a variety of experiences on my blog, I have been able to connect with many on different levels. I connect with some friends over my favourite skincare products and others over my blogging advice.

They expose us to try things we may not have known about

Some of my favourite lifestyle blogs have introduced me to apps I would have never known about for my phone or subscription services I have never heard about. Lifestyle blogs also help us answer questions like “Can Hypnotherapy help with Anxiety?” or “How do I make money blogging?” or “What mistakes am I making on Twitter?

Why do lifestyle blogs matter?

They make me accountable

I share my goals with my blogging community and with the public and regardless if anyone cares about what they are, I feel accountable to achieve them. I’m not saying that a lifestyle blog has to be a personal diary exactly, but when someone shares what is working or not working for them and how they achieve their goals, I become motivated to try their tips and achieve mine. I have actually worked harder to achieve goals in all aspects of my life (not just one niche area) since becoming a lifestyle blogger.

They allow us to experience other walks of life and experiences from a variety of different points of views

Reading other blogs helps me find more compassion and empathy. Lifestyle blogs allow me to broaden my horizons and open my mind to others’ beliefs, views and opinions. Whether it is a different fitness plan, a different brand of makeup or a new way to do hair, I am exposed to so many new things and love learning them.

I’m not picking on any blogger who has a super specific niche, like food or travel blogs. You guys are great and I wish I could do what you do! But, I think that lifestyle blogs are often looked down upon because others think that we can’t focus on one topic or aren’t talented enough to blog about just food or fitness.

Lifestyle blogs matter to me and I am so grateful to have this corner of the internet to share on a variety of topics that I love! I am constantly inspired and motivated by those in my blogging community and, at the end of the day, I feel that lifestyle blogs have made me a better person.

Wow i love this so much! I can definitely relate, my blog is about everything I feel like writing about so I have like 4 niche’s and I don’t care. Write whatever you want girly, and keep being you💛

I think there’s a new niche of “non niche” bloggers who want to write about all the things that interest them in their lives, and I love it!

Definitely agree hun! I love being a non niche blogger 🙂

Early in my blogging career I was told I needed to have more of a niche so that I would be respected. Now, I have a successful lifestyle blog and love sharing my thoughts and favorite things with the world! I totally support your decision to be non-niche and 100% would do the same 🙂

Wow really? Well congratulations on sticking with your guns hun! 🙂

I completely agree with this! There is so much pressure to narrow down the topics that you are writing about, sometimes this is kinda sad when you want to write about it all! I think lifestyle bligs are great because there is so much different content. I feel it can reach a larger audience!

yes to this! I consider myself a lifestyle blog to because I don’t want to be associated with just one thing – if I were to brand myself a fitness blog then I bet people would come with ‘but her body isn’t that great’ ahah. We have a lot of interests and that’s fine!

Totally agree haha I have a fitness section too but there’s no way I have the body of a fitness blogger…yet 😉 x
