A little over a month ago I switched to the Huawei P20 Pro. I’ve been on iOS and the iPhone pretty much my whole “phone owning” life.
I think if I remember rightly the iPhone 4 was my first iPhone. I never even thought about switching, not only because I was a massive Apple fan, but also because there was just no reason. I liked the iPhone and I liked iOS. Whenever a new iPhone came out, there wasn’t even a question about getting it or not getting it. As soon as my contract came up, I was onto the most recent one.
I probably wouldn’t have switched to android if Apple would simply sort out the lifespan of their phones (#deathaftertwoyears), oh and also the amount of memory on offer for the price.
My iPhone 6 Plus was only 16g because at the time, the price of this phone was huge and it was all I could afford!
A colleague at work came in one morning with the Google Pixel XL and let me have a quick play with it, I was pretty much sold from the moment I started using it. Andriod seemed to have come on leaps and bounds!
After heading to EE who I hold my contract with I ended up leaving happy as larry with the new Huawei P20 Pro 🙂 I know my colleague showed me the Google Pixel, but there was something about the Huawei phone when I tried it, that I really liked.
I’m not saying I’d never go back to Apple but at the moment, I’m pretty sold on this phone and everything that it offers. Let me tell you about my main likes so far…
This was a small concern. I may not be that addicted to iOS, but I’m definitely deep into Apple’s ecosystem when it comes to iMessage. To be honest though, most of my conversations and group chats are now over on WhatsApp so I really don’t miss iMessage.
The only person I tend to text is my Grandma (bless her), and she doesn’t have WhatsApp or an iPhone so…..
I’m sure that there will be a couple of iMessages that have gotten lost in the ether, but nowadays most people are happy over on WhatsApp.
I’m sure iPhone users are allergic to the green SMS bubbles 😉
Holy moly this is one of the best things about this phone! It has three damn cameras……THREE. Being a blogger, sometimes I simply cannot be bothered to lug my camera around everywhere with me. The Huawei P20 is perfect for taking detailed shots and auto switches into different settings.
For example, it has a profile, greenery, food and even a cats setting, each offering different ways in which the photo looks. You can, of course, turn this off, but I find that it really enhances my shots by letting the phone do its thing.
Look, feel and unlock experience
One of my absolute favourite Huawei P20 features is the fingerprint, face and voice unlock system. It’s just SO much better than the iPhone. Whenever I pick up my phone, it either scans my face or senses my finger/thumb and unlocks within a split second.
The face recognition is second to none and I really quite like the ability to simply say “hey google” and my little phone wakes up, nerdy I know. It’s the little things isn’t it haha!
Let’s get down to business, the look. It is honestly such a sleek looking phone and has a mirrored back. I’ve still not popped a case on it yet, purely because it feels a lot more robust than the iPhone, despite it being lighter. When I bought the phone it also came with a factory fitted screen protector…..BONUS.
One big thing I was stressing about was Apple Music. As I pay the £9.99 a month for the service, I wanted to be able to carry it over to my new phone. Well the good news is folks that you can!
Even though it is an Apple App, you can still download it on Android, which is great and meant I haven’t lost any of my music, phew.
I was honestly really surprised that I could get all the apps I could do on my iPhone, on my android. Oh and I could also download more than I’ve ever had due to the ridiculous amount of storage on the phone 😉 hello 128g of storage!
Here are my favourite apps of the moment:
- OneDrive (where I store all my blog bits and bobs)
- Barclays Banking (how very adult of me)
Have you switched from iPhone? If you have how did you find it? Would you ever take the plunge?
