My blogging essentials

Blogging a couple of times a week means I have to stay super organised and on top of my game to keep this space running smoothly.

Having a good range of blogging tools allows me to get my work done much more efficiently and stay somewhat “sane” in the creating process. I always love reading posts where the blogger shares what they use on a daily basis for work, so today I thought I’d share my everyday essentials for running a successful blog.

My Blogging Tools & Essentials

My MacBook Air

This, obviously, is the most important tool that I use. My MacBook is where I do everything, from editing photos in Photoshop to writing posts to updating social media. I currently use Adobe Photoshop to edit all of my photos, self-hosted WordPress as the platform for my blog, I use SiteGround as my host, and Bloglovin for readers to subscribe and get updates about each post.

Old English Company Notebook

To keep somewhat organised with posts and things that need to be done every day, I use my notebook from the Old English Company. This is where I keep my daily to-do lists, important dates and deadlines, and a rough draft of my editorial calendar. It’s so good and compact which means I can carry it around with me wherever I go 🙂

Google Calendar

This is definitely my go-to app for planning out my blog posts each month. It’s really easy to use, plus it automatically syncs between all of my devices so I’m always able to check which posts are coming up next, no matter where I’m at. It’s made even more perfect by the fact that I’ve recently just moved from iOS to Android! Blog coming soon about this 😉

Instagram

Most might consider this more of a casual social media platform, but for me it’s one of my favourite ways to get my posts seen by others. I like to use Instagram to share pictures from my posts, and I regularly update my Instagram Story with behind-the-scenes peeks of what I’m up to, random everyday moments and other bloggers/Instagrammers that I think are awesome! (Shameless plug: follow me on Instagram if you’re not already!)

Twitter

My other favourite social media platform for connecting with readers and sharing my content is Twitter. Although recently I’ve seen bloggers on Twitter saying how the platform is going downhill, thoughts?  I love getting to see quick little updates from my favourite bloggers, plus it’s so fun and easy to connect with others via the #fitnessbloggers, #lbloggers, and loads of other hashtags.

My trusty sidekick – Panasonic Lumix G1 Compact

You’ll very rarely see this as I use it to take all my blog photos and some of my Insta photos, but it is definitely the second most important tool used for my blog. I don’t think Sophie’s Choice would be what it is today without the photos. I am extremely passionate about photography and learning more about my camera and photo editing.

I usually spend one day a week and take photos for a few posts, and then edit them so they’re all ready to go when it’s time to write the post (this is a huge timesaver). I’m a big fan of soft photos with blurred out backgrounds, so I think I may need to invest in another lens for this!

My number 1 blogging essential is my ipad. As a trainee teacher I seem to always be on the go, and my ipad means I can blog wherever and whenever I want to!

This is a great post! I couldn’t be without a notebook when it comes to blogging. It really helps me to get all my ideas out of my head and onto paper so I can build a bigger picture xx
